Regional Shield

MORANBAH EAST State School have taken out this year’s Overall Regional Shield Title. The combined efforts of the boy’s rugby league win and girl’s netball 3rd placing secured Moranbah East as the number one school of the competition.
The EQ Regional Shield was held on July 13-14 in Rockhampton. Rugby League was held at Rockhampton High School’s rugby league fields and across the road at Victoria Park.

The netballers played a little further down the road at the Jardine Park Netball Courts. Moranbah East teams had a ball playing against 26 other schools from throughout the region in two days of nonstop action. Their sportsmanship and skill improvement over the two days are to be commended.

The backbone of the Moranbah East rugby league team was their impressive defensive efforts. Undefeated across all 5 of their games, they managed to successfully win the shield after they defeated Kin Kora 12-6 in an epic final.

The Moranbah East netball girls were also undefeated in their five tough games, this placing them in the division 1 pool the finals. The girls went down in the semi-final against reigning champions Norville State School. They then came back and played their hearts out to win their final game against Berserker Street State to place 3rd.

It's a major achievement for the school and the region and the first time that Moranbah East have brought home the Overall School Shield.
